What, no life experience, us?

Is it fair to say Helen and the gang have no life experience? (Or as Don puts it, "real world" experience.) Well here is what they did before parliament (nicked from their biographies on the beehive website):

Helen Clark

She was a junior lecturer in political studies in Auckland from 1973-75, studied abroad on a University Grants Committee post-graduate scholarship in 1976, and then lectured in political studies at Auckland from 1977 until her election to Parliament in 1981.

Michael Cullen

Assistant Lecturer, University of Canterbury;Tutor, University of Stirling;Senior Lecturer in History, University of Otago (Dunedin);Visiting Fellow, Australian National University;active in aspects of university administration.

(Don't you just love that "active in aspects of university administration". It sounds so diligent.)

Steve Maharey

Steve has a B.A. and an M.A. (Hons) in sociology. He was a senior lecturer in sociology at Massey University before entering Parliament

But then who has to come and muck it all up and have a wee modicum of life experience-

Phil Goff

During his university years Phil Goff worked seasonally as a freezing worker between 1968 and 1974. Following graduation from the University of Auckland he lectured in political studies at the same institution between 1975 and 1978. Prior to entering Parliament he also was an organiser of the Insurance Workers Union in 1980/81.

Following defeat at the 1990 election, Phil Goff lectured in political studies at the Auckland Institute of Technology between 1991 and 1993.

OK, I did only say a modicum. Phil was aged between 15 and 19 when he was getting his hands dirty down the freezing works. Don't you love the way he is the only one who put their university job in. (Ireckon the others were stuffing envelope or working at the library or skiing or something.) Ask yourself this, if you were doing a biography or a CV or something would you put your paper round in?

And their off and posturing. Chests out. A bit of slag and a bit of brag and... . (I was going to bring you more but there was a good episode of Dad's Army on UK TV while the 7pm waffle was on. This may prove to be a hurdle in the future as well.)
